Vice President and Portfolio Manager Cynthia A. Zickel, ChFC, CFP®, recently celebrated her 35th anniversary working at Haverford Trust. We sat down with her to look back on her time here thus far and highlight some of her favorite lessons and accomplishments. We thank Cynthia for 35 exceptional years, and we are looking forward to many more.

What position did you have when you first started at Haverford?

When I first started at Haverford my position was focused on getting our commercial bank open and operational. As a Fed member bank, this included going to the Federal Reserve Bank at 6th & Arch to purchase capital stock in the Federal Reserve Bank, hosting the Fed and Commonwealth of PA examinations, and assisting our clients with their private banking needs.

What has working at Haverford done for you personally or professionally?

Working at Haverford Trust taught me how to be a professional. Haverford helped me: finish my college education, obtain my securities licenses, get my Certified Financial Planner designation and other related industry designations. Haverford trained me as a professional presenter, taught me how to foster client relationship, and keeps me trained and up to date with relevant technology. I have shared my Haverford lessons and experiences with my family which has helped all of us excel.

What advice do you have for new team members just starting out in their careers?

My advice would be to be patient, humble, and helpful. Always keep learning and growing in your role.

What has kept you at Haverford for 35 years?

George (George Connell, Founder and Director) always made it fun.  He put his full energy into the company. He fostered hard work by example. He shared his knowledge of the industry and philosophy with us.  He fed us to the lions early to help us learn and shape our paths.  He encouraged socializing, exercising, and friendly competition. My favorite company events include Captiva Island, St. Patrick’s Day at Cavanaugh’s, CoreStates 5K run and award dinners, Union League lunches and Christmas dinners, golf outings, gym memberships, community participation, and volunteering.

What are you most proud of during your time here?

I am most proud of being a part of the company in the early years. I was one of ten people when I began at Haverford. When I look back, I know I have been part of something extraordinary, and when I look forward, I feel the same extraordinary spirit moving the mission onward.

Is there anything else you want to highlight?

I never anticipated the significant relationships I would form because of my affiliation with Haverford. I have been blessed by my associations with my clients and their families, and my Haverford colleagues alike.
