As Morgan Housel states in his book, The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness, freedom is “the highest form of wealth.”

I couldn’t agree more with this sentiment as research has shown time and again that freedom – not possessions, career success or accolades – is what makes humans the happiest. How wonderful is it to have options in life, having the freedom to make choices? Some people seek the freedom to work on projects they love, while others may want the freedom to spend more time with their families. There are also those who desire the freedom to travel the world and hunt for new experiences.

Our personal finances are often the largest driver of our ability to live freely. The financial choices we make have a tremendous impact on our freedom today and in the future.

Finding the right path

Life is all about making choices. The decisions we make today will greatly impact our lives down the road. At the same time, it’s important to enjoy our lives today. This is a delicate balance that many of us struggle to find. At Haverford Trust, we strive to create flexibility and freedom for our clients in ways that bring them peace of mind. We take a holistic approach to our clients’ financial pictures and can help you make these tough decisions. Finding your definition of freedom is a lifelong effort but is a pursuit worth taking.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

  • Can you think of a sacrifice you’ve made today in hopes of a future payoff?
  • How do you want to spend your time today? How do you expect to want to spend it in the future?
  • Can you think of a time when a financial professional counseled you when making a decision that affected your future?
