We are pleased to announce Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Paul Rovner was named as a 2022 Philadelphia Business Journal CFO of the Year honoree. This prestigious program honors top financial professionals for outstanding performance in their roles, including demonstrated contributions to their company’s growth and/or profitability, success in overcoming business challenges, and influence within the community. We recently sat down with Paul as he reflected on his time here at Haverford Trust.
How did you come to join the Haverford team?
One of my best friends worked at Haverford Trust and loved everything about the company and his role. Not too many of my friends could say that. When the Chief Financial Officer position became available, he reached out to me to see if I was interested. I was not looking to leave my prior employer, however, I did want to learn more about the company. I took a tour and casually met with a few members of the management team. In my mind this was not an interview, so I was caught off guard when they called me on my drive home with a verbal offer to join the company. I considered the potential opportunities that I could have with Haverford Trust and immediately became excited by everything that it had to offer.
I have worn many hats over the years, including management of our Accounting, Banking, Human Resources, and Trust Administration functions over the years. More than 20 years later, I have not been disappointed! It was one of the best decisions that I ever made.
What advice do you have for new team members just starting out in their careers?
The keys to success are always having a positive, can-do attitude, bringing great energy, showing initiative and giving your best on every single project that you work on, regardless of how big or small it may be. If all 4 of these elements are present, you will be in high demand!
What has kept you at Haverford for over 20 years?
Our employees are my extended family! We have maintained an average of 93%+ employee retention since I started at Haverford Trust, which is incredible.
What are you most proud of during your time here?
It’s amazing to see the growth that we have had. We had approximately 40 employees when I started at Haverford and have more than tripled in size since then. Despite the growth, quality remains present in everything that we do.
